29 min
Ten years ago, the Italian surgeon Paolo Machiarini's ground-breaking surgery, transplanting the world's first synthetic windpipe won him praise and fame around the world. But it all went terribly wrong.

This week, he went on trial for aggravated assault, with the prosecutor arguing that what he did was not healthcare, not research, but experiments on humans, without ethical clearance. Macchiarini himself denies any wrongdoing, his lawyer says he was trying to save people's lives.
We also hear about the new Ukrainian news service at Radio Sweden, police reaction to the Easter riots, and a longer interview with the Nobel Prize laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah.
