Bildt Rejects FRA Comments

The Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt has denied saying that the National Defence Radio Establishment, the FRA, can share information with dictatorships if it’s in the country’s national interest.

Bildt says his comments were used in a ’dishonest and false’ manner by the Swedish Television documentary aired on Sunday evening.

He adds that he was quoted out of context and that he was talking about the entire Swedish intelligence system, not solely the FRA.

SVT have reacted by posting the unedited ten minute interview as well as the full programme on their homepage.

The foreign minister says he agrees with FRA boss Åke Karlsson that the Establishment would only ever cooperate with democratic countries.
