Folke Bernadotte Remembered

Sixty years ago today, a member of the Swedish royal family was assassinated in Jerusalem while working as the UN mediator in the Arab-Israeli conflict.

But it was Folke Bernadotte’s efforts to save thousands of people held in German concentration camps during Wolrd War II, using a convoy of white buses, which captured the public’s imagination and were honoured and remembered in central Stockholm on Monday, with the help of one of the original buses.
