Congolese Doctor Wins Olof Palme Prize

The prestigious prize in the name of the murdered Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was awarded Friday to Congolese gynocologist Dr Denis Mukwege.

In his hospital in Panzi, in the conflict-ridden Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dr. Mukwege treats women who have fallen victim to mass rapes and other forms of sexual violence.

Often risking his own life, Dr. Mukwege has helped thousands of women regain their health and given them hope to find a way back from total despair.
