Maria Donis said that some municipalities were panicking without justification. Sweden’s chicken industry has been hit hard by the dozens of cases of glass found in fresh and poultry over the last fortnight. On Thursday, the municipalities of Borlänge and Halland joined Västerås in taking chicken off the menu in children’s nurserys and schools. According to the TT news agency, there was another case of a glass found in chicken on Thursday, this time at a school in Västerås. Some hospitals have already banned chicken.
It’s not only chicken which has been affected. On Wednesday in southern Sweden , a piece of glass was found in a falu sausage, a family favourite in Sweden.
The Swedish Trade Federation has called for a meeting on Friday for food producers as well as the police.
The country’s national police and security force are investigating the cases of probable sabotage.
