The TBE threat is rated as severe because so far there is no antidote to fight the infection. According to the survey last year 220 cases of tick-borne encephalitis were reported nationwide.
At the same time there was a much higher number of borrelia infections, also caused by ticks. However, borrelia is avoidable by vaccination and, once contracted, can be treated successfully. To ensure better protection against tick attacks, health authorities urge citizens and tourists to wear solid shoes and pants that will keep the parasites off the skin.
