World War II Dud Delays Swedish Ferry

A Swedish ferryboat anchored in Kiel harbor had to be evacuated late Friday because of a World War II bomb found in waters nearby. The ”Stena Scandinavica” was due to sail back to Gothenburg from Germany with 207 mostly Swedish passengers, when the alarm was sounded.

Bomb squad specialists of the German police disarmed the 500-pound dud after it was hoisted to the surface. The passengers were allowed back on board after a two-hour delay and the Stena line ferry arrived back in Gothenburg early Saturday.
