Mohamed Nasheed

Anna Lindh Prize to Maldive President

This year’s Anna Lindh Prize has been awarded to the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed.

The jury says he’s been given the award in memory of the late Swedish foreign minister for his efforts to put people and human rights in the center of the debate over climate change.

He’s also been honored for his role in the peaceful transition to democracy in the Indian Ocean island republic.
