Mass grave after the Rwandan genocide

Rwanda Genocide Extradition Trial

The Swedish Supreme Court has begun a hearing into whether a Rwandan accused of genocide should be returned to his homeland.

The charges include responsibility for the murder of 28 Tutsis in April 1994.

The 53 year old has been given asylum in Denmark.

He was arrested when his wife wanted to renew her passport at the Rwandan embassy in Stockholm.

So far no European country has agreed to Rwanda’s demands to return those accused of taking part in the 1994 genocide, in which around 800,000, mostly Tutsis, were killed.
