Sweden Pleased with European Parliament Vote

Sweden’s Migration Minister Tobias Billström has welcomed Thursday’s vote in the European Parliament on a common asylum policy across the EU.
MEP’s decided on a series of measures aimed at strengthening Europe-wide co-operation on asylum issues, and improving the rights of asylum seekers.

The measures include making member states accept refugees that have already been accepted as refugees in other countries, to spread the load more evenly across the continent.

The package will now be passed on to the EU’s Council of Ministers for further discussion, before it ends up in the parliament again, this time during Sweden’s presidency. Minister Billström says that the vote by the parliament is a good basis for further discussions on the issue over the next 6 months.
