Poverty Among Youth Increases

The financial situation for Swedish youth has worsened, a study made by the Swedish National Board for Youth Affairs shows. In eight years, the percentage of young people between the ages 20 and 29 who have "low economic standard" has almost doubled, from 12 to 23 %. For single parents in the same age category, the situation is even worse, with an increase from 19% to 63%.

In a comment to the study, Inger Ashing at the Board for Youth Affairs says that it is not just the financial crisis that affects the youth, but also the fact that schools do not properly prepare them for working life.
