Following the Midsummer weekend EU summit, the Czech presidency of the EU is coming to an end. July 1st sees the start of the Swedish presidency.
Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt was pleased the summit removed one potential headache, and has welcomed the unanimous support from European leaders for José Manuel Barroso for a second term as president of the European Commission.
But the issue still isn’t certain. The nomination still has to go to the European Parliament for confirmation. Speaking to the press in Brussels on the eve of the Swedish Presidency, Reinfeldt expressed his hopes for a quick confirmation.
