Swedes Abroad Fail to Repay

Swedish Radio News reports that the Swedish authorities are putting more pressure on Swedes abroad who have failed to pay back their student loans.

The National Board of Student Aid (CSN), the government agency that administers grants and loans to higher education students in Sweden, is preparing to demand the immediate repayment of an entire loan, if the former student fails to keep up payments.

According to the board, Swedes living abroad owe around 400 million dollars in overdue student loans. Around one in four abroad is delinquent, compared to just three percent of borrowers living in Sweden.

Swedish Radio News reports that legislation is expected to go to parliament later this year which will allow the student aid board to demand the immediate total repayment of delinquent loans.
