Life Prisoner Suspected of Stockholm Murder

A man suspected of the murder of a woman in central Stockholm on Saturday was on weekend release from prison where he was serving a life sentence for murder.

The tabloid Expressen newspaper writes that the 36 year old police suspect is serving a custodial sentence for stabbing a man to death in Värmland 13 years ago.

Last month the man had his life sentence reduced to 21 years on good behaviour on the recommendation of head prosecutor Gunnar Brodin, who told the TT news agency that he was following recommendations from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The prisoner had enjoyed regular furloughs and was not considered to be a threat to the public.

On Saturday, a woman was found stabbed to death in a flat in Kungsholmen. The 36 year old suspect was arrested by police the same day.
