Sweden Rejects EU Kilometer Tax

The Swedish government says it will not support a European Union proposal calling for an environmental kilometer tax on heavy truck transports - despite its earlier pledges to use economic measures to combat global warming.

The Swedish transport minister justifies this by arguing that such a tax would be unfair for a nation like Sweden with its long distances and no alternatives to truck transport for the northern forest industry.
