Gotland Building Not Illegal

There maybe questions over whether politicians were acting unlawfully in giving him permission to build near the shore, but prosecutors say they are not going to press any charges for environmental crimes against company owner Max Hansson himself.

This case came to prominence when county governor was recorded saying that businesses should be given special treatment when it came to protection laws about building near the shore. Marianne Samuelsson is governmer of the island of Gotland and a former spokesperson for the Green Party.

The issue of Samuelsson's improper behaviour is still being investigated. But Max Hansson's building will not be - since aerial photos show that his building happened six years ago, and such crimes cannot be followed up after five years.

Prosecutor Leif H Johansson said on Monday that it was not even certain that Hansson had done anything criminal.
