Smileys for Good Working Environment

Employers in Sweden who offer a good working environment will be given extra encouragement, possibly in the shape of a green smiley, Swedish Radio News reports.

The idea comes from Denmark, where the health and safety authorities have screened companies and put the result in a database available to the public. Companies with a good working environment are given a green smiley.

The Swedish minister for employment Sven Otto Littorin likes the idea, and in the next budget over a million USD per year for three years has been put aside for screening some sectors of the market. Whether the "thumbs-up"-symbol is going to be a smiley or not, is too early to say, says Littorin.

The idea has been criticised by both public and private employers, who have questioned how the screening would improve the working environment.
