2009 Nobel Prize Women Set Record

With Herta Müller awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday, a record number of women have received the Nobel Prize in one and the same year. A total of four women are among the laureates this year, one more than ever before.

In addition to Herta Müller, Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol Greider share this year's Medicine Prize and Ada Yonath is one of this year's winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Over the years, there have only been 39 women Nobel Laureates, which is less than 5 percent of the total.
