Denmark's Simon Kjaer, left, fights for the ball with Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Sweden Virtually Out of World Cup

A late second half goal gave Denmark a 1-0 win over Sweden in Copenhagen Saturday evening, and with it a place in the 2010 soccer World Cup finals, at the top of Group 1.

After the match, Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic complained to the press about two Swedish goals that were called back by the referees.

For the Swedes, the loss makes it virtually impossible to make it to the finals in South Africa, especially after Portugal beat Hungary 3-0 to take second place in the qualifying group ahead of the Swedes.

There are calls to fire Sweden manager Lars Lagerbäck after the national team’s disappointing performance. The newspaper “Expressen” reports Sunday that Lagerbäck will resign as manager after Wednesday’s game against Albania.
