Sweden To Renegotiate Vaccine Deal?

The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions are hoping that Sweden will be able to renegotiate the deal with the company that manufactures the Swine Flu vaccine, Glaxo Smith Kline, if it should turn out that Sweden has ordered too many doses.

Sweden has ordered two doses for each citizen, a total of 18 million doses, but after Tuesday’s revelation from the WHO that one dose may be sufficient, it is feared that the country will have a surplus on their hands. On Tuesday Swedish Minister for Health Maria Larsson said that in case of too many doses, Sweden will sell on the surplus to other counties in need.

However, it seems that this may be more complicated than previously expected and Göran Stiernstedt of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions is hopeful for an alternative solution.

“I would assume that we will be able to renegotiate with the company as the conditions are different today than when the deal was closed,” he said to Swedish Radio News on Wednesday.
