Child Porn Law to Become Stricter
The Swedish law against child pornography is expected to become stricter. On Monday the government passed an amendment that makes just watching computer pictures or films containing child porn a crime. Current legislation outlaws possession and spreading of such material.
Another part of the law amendment aims at raising the age level of minors shown in porn pictures or movies. Material containing sexual exploitation of persons younger than 18 years would be classified as child pornography in the future. Implementing the law will require a constitutional amendment. This means that the legislation has to be passed by parliament in two consecutive legislative periods, separated by elections. To avoid this the government is considering another amendment that will allow passing the new child pornography law before next year’s elections.
