Polisario soliders in the Western Sahara

Morocco has ordered the immediate departure of a Swedish diplomat for turning over documents to the Polisario Front liberation movement in the Western Sahara.

The Swedish ambassador in Rabat, Michael Odevald, was summoned to the Moroccan Foreign Ministry Wednesday to meet Foreign Minister Taieb Fassi Fihri.

He told the Swedish envoy of what was called a serious breach in diplomatic practice and an unacceptable professional error by Swedish embassy advisor Anna Block-Mazoyer.

She is accused of turning over to Polisario official Moroccan documents, which had been presented at a briefing the foreign ministry organized on developments in the Western Sahara. The meeting was attended by Sweden, which holds the rotating European Union presidency.

Cecilia Juhlin, head of the Foreign Ministry’s Communications Department, has confirmed the Moroccan request, and says the dispute is bilateral, and has nothing to do with the EU presidency.
