Demonstration against violence following the "Romario" murder

The Stockholm Court of Appeals has overturned a district court verdict, and has found one of the defendants in the so-called “Romario” murder case guilty. Taking into consideration his age, the 19 year old was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for murder, and two cases of attempted murder.

The court upheld the lower court’s not-guilty verdicts for a 17 year old and a 20 year old, who had been charged with being accessories to murder.

It was in October last year that a 23 year old man, called Romario in the press, was knifed to death following a fight at a central Stockholm bar.

Although the 19 year confessed to the killing, there were strong doubts whether he was telling the truth, and he later withdrew his confession.
