Tolgfors Flies Out to Brazil on Gripen Mission

Sweden's defence minister Sten Tolgfors travelled to Brazil on Monday hoping to tie up a sales deal for Sweden's Gripen fighter jet.

Writing in his blog, Tolgfors said that the Brazilian government was close to making a decision over which fighter plane to purchase, even though the exact decision date is not known.

Recently French aircraft maker Dassault lashed out at Sweden's Saab and America's Boeing for playing dirty over the multi-billion dollar contract.

Dassault said that Saab and Boeing are trying to influence the deal to sell jet fighters to Brazil by claiming that its plane is too expensive.

The French fighter jet is considered to be front runner for the contract after the presidents of Brazil and France issued a joint statement two months ago saying that negotiations to buy the planes had already begun.
