Swedish Pigs MRSA Free

Sweden is one of very few countries in the EU where the pig population is cleared of MRSA. The antibiotic resistant bacteria have been found in a large scale in Europe, according to a report from the European Food safety Authority (EFSA).

In some countries the bacteria was found in up to half of all the examined pigs. In seven countries, including Sweden, the bacteria were not found at all. According to the National Food Authority the reason for Sweden's good result is that Swedish pigs have good protection against disease and that pork producers have good routines to do with buying animals.
