Illegal Sale of Residence Permits

Updated 18:03

Swedish Radio news reports that Swedish residence permits are being sold illegally for 3,000 US dollars - giving the owner the right to travel freely throughout Europe.

Radio journalists say they found a man selling the permits which are easily glued into a passport. The man is living underground in the Stockholm area after his request for asylum was rejected.

Meanwhile, passport authorities confirm that Swedish residence permit stickers have been stolen and are being found on the black market.

At the Swedish Migration Board they say that although it is rare that these stickers are stolen, a small amount disappear every year, generally at Swedish legations abroad. These are supposed to be reported, and that process should make the stickers, which are individually marked, impossible to use at border controls.
