SAAB Sub-Contractor Sacks Staff

One of SAAB's main suppliers in Trollhättan has announced it is to sack almost its entire workforce in the town.

Lear Corps makes car seats for SAAB in Trollhättan, but with the future of SAAB unclear has announced it is preparing redundancy for 119 of its 130 workers at the plant in west Sweden.

The US-based company Swedish branch used to employ 450 people in Trollhättan, according to news agency TT, but a series of cutbacks since 2004 had already reduced the workforce by two-thirds. 90% of their trade is with SAAB Automobiles.

"The only thing that can save the jobs is if SAAB gets a new owner", union rep Ulf Holmeby told TT.
