Record Number of Moose

The number of moose in the far northern regions of Sweden has hit a new record high. Stocktaking carried out by the forest owner company Sveaskog shows that some 17,000 moose are currently living on 1.1 million hectares in the area of Överkalix, Korpilombolo, Boden and Råneå.

The moose density is not as high anywhere else in Sweden, a representative of Sveaskog told the newspaper Norrländska Socialdemokraten. As moose can damage forests while searching for food, the company is now looking into measures on how to make food more accessible for the animals.
