With the snow chaos continuing, the Swedish Rail Administration is asking the military to help curb the situation on the railway tracks. Both the Minister for Infrastructure Åsa Torstensson and Defense Minister Sten Tolgfors told reporters at a press conference in Stockholm Tuesday afternoon that the military will be involved in fighting the snow masses in order to get the rail traffic going again.

Half of the trains between Sweden’s biggest three cities Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö were cancelled on Tuesday. And both commuter trains and subways in Greater Stockholm are still heavily affected by the unusual weather conditions.

One of Sweden’s most important motorways, the E4, was closed south of Stockholm after a lorry drove into a bridge near Södertälje.
