Gender Discrimination Increasing

Gender discrimination as well as discrimination in general is increasing in Sweden, the Ombudsman against Discrimination, Katri Linna, has told Swedish Radio. Last year, the Ombudsman authority registered more than 2,500 reports of discrimination – 177 of which were related to gender issues.

According to Linna, the rise of both gender discrimination and other forms of discrimination has to do with the fact that people are more aware of their rights. Another aspect that could have contributed to the increase in reports might be a law reform that was introduced in 2009. Since then even discrimination that is related to age is being registered by the Ombudsman.
