Snow Chaos

Military Will Clear Tracks

Will get help from the military

Updated 17:25

With the snow chaos continuing, the Swedish Rail Administration has asked the military to help curb the situation on the railway tracks.

300 men and women from the Swedish forces will be helping to clear snow and ice from train tracks and switches at three important junctions from Wednesday onwards.

During Tuesday, half of the trains between Sweden's biggest three cities Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö were cancelled. And both commuter trains and subways in Greater Stockholm continue to be affected by the unusual weather conditions.

The railway company SJ decided on Tuesday afternoon to reinstate its travel guarantee, which gives the customers right to claim back parts of the train fare if they arrive more than an hour later than scheduled. This guarantee was cancelled last Friday due to "force majeure".
