Bildt Inaugurates New Embassy in Iraq
Foreign Minister Carl Bildt is in Baghdad to inaugurate the country’s 60 million kronor embassy in Iraq. Bildt told a Swedish Radio News correspondent on Wednesday that the compound—the largest Swedish embassy in the region—is well worth the money.
“We have supported the country in its democratic development early on, so we have a good deal of goodwill here. It has significance for the Middle East as a whole if they succeed in establishing a reasonable political system.”
Over 100,000 people with Iraqi roots live in Sweden.
