Lynx Hunting Season Opened

The first of the month marks the opening of the season for hunting lynx. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has given permission to shoot 200 of the large cats. The highest quotas were issued for the northern provinces, where the lynx poses a threat to reindeer herds.

Several animal protection organizations have criticized the Environment Agency for allowing the use of traps to catch and kill lynxes. They maintain that traps cause animals to needlessly suffer.
