A stranded train in western Sweden

Mathematicians To Keep Trains on Time

Recent massive delays in train travel have aggravated and irritated passengers throughout Sweden, spurring the people meant to keep the trains rolling into action. From now on Swedish trains will be kept on time by a totally new timetable which will result from a joint project between the Swedish Rail Administration (Banverket) and Swedish Railways (SJ), one of the main train operators in the country.

The project involving a group of mathematicians is a part of a Ph.D. dissertation that is financed by the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems, Vinnova.
