It's the 86th running of the 90 kilometre cross country Vasaloppet

Vasaloppet Underway

This year's Vasaloppet, the 86th staging of one of the world's longest cross-country ski races, got underway at 8am in Sälen early on Sunday with temperatures around -10 celsius.

A record 16,454 skiers are taking part in the 90 kilometre race which ends in the town of Mora, following in the historical tracks (in reverse ) of future Swedish king Gustav Vasa who fleed for his life on skis from Danish troops 500 years ago.
