The public has been warned to stay away from the mountains in Sweden’s northwestern corner as high winds and unstable snow have brought the region’s avalanche alert to its highest possible level. The class five warning signifies that spontaneous avalanches are very likely to occur.

People have been advised to refrain from walking in the mountains in the Abisko region, in addition to the area along the northern border with Norway.
