Spring Bird Ringing Begins on Öland

A horned owl is the first bird to be ringed at the bird station on the southern tip of the Swedish Baltic island of Öland.

This is considered one of the first signs of spring even though this owl remains in Sweden during the winter - but bird watchers have noted other migratory birds flying in from the south.

Some 20,000 birds will be ringed in the next month at the station.
