Royal Wedding

The King Will Lead Victoria Down the Aisle

The long battle between the Royal Family and the church ended on Monday when a spokeswoman for the family told daily newspaper Aftonbladet that it is their wish that King Carl XVI Gustaf lead Princess Victoria down the aisle at the wedding on June 19.

The tradition in Sweden is that the bride and groom walk together down the aisle but the princess decided to change that tradition and instead have her father walk with her.

The spokeswoman, Nina Eldh, said that even though the royal family respects the different opinions and the tradition they believe it is up to everyone to decide how they want their wedding ceremony.

Archbishop Anders Wejryd, who is performing the ceremony, has previously told Swedish news agency TT that he believes the princess should follow the Swedish tradition and walk together with groom Daniel Westling. Nine priests from Lund in southern Sweden also wrote a personal letter to the princess encouraging her to reconsider her decision.
