The Swedish government decided on Wednesday to put an end to life-time salaries accorded to Swedish writers and artists, news agency TT reports. Limited, long-term grants will be offered instead.
However, the artists who enjoy life-time salaries today will not be affected by the decision.
The Swedish government began giving out the yearly salaries in 1976. At the moment, 157 people receive the money, which numbered about 27,000 US dollars in 2009.
