Election 2010

Moderates Have More Wealthy Candidates

Sweden's conservative Moderate party has the largest number of high income earners as candidates running for Parliament in this fall's election, according to a new survey ordered by Swedish Radio. This is a reversal of the situation in past elections, when the center left Social Democrats held this distinction. While perhaps it is not surprising that a conservative party would attract the highest income earners as candidates, the report also showed that the Social Democrats--long known as the workers party here in Sweden--have the lowest number of low income earners running for office.
