Residents of Västerbotten felt the ground tremble last night

4.1 Tremor Shakes Northern Sweden

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Västerbotten in northern Sweden at about 10:30 PM Tuesday night. Although no damages were reported, the quake was enough to shock residents, who are unaccustomed to earthquakes of this size.

“I was home and surfing on the Internet when I felt things begin to shake. It started to rumble as when a train goes by,” Malin from Skellefteå told news agency TT. “It kept going for about 15-20 seconds, maybe longer. I had time to get frightened anyway.”

“When it was over, the birds outside began chirping desperately,” she finished.

The 15-kilometer-deep earthquake’s epicenter lay 85 kilometers north of the city of Umeå and 135 southwest of Luleå.
