At least four stores of clothing chain H & M have reported that someone tampered with their credit card machines in order to steal money. Police in the southern city of Malmö were alerted to a case after a man called and complained that a machine looked like it had been altered.
Cases of tampering have been reported at H & Ms in two other cities in southern and central Sweden. In recent years many stores have opted to replace machines that read magnetic strips on cards with ones that read an imbedded computer chip. Swedish Radio News reports that H & M had not yet made the change.
