Seven convicted in helicopter heist trial

The 35-year-old man known as the pilot has been convicted to seven years in prison for robbery when the verdict for the ten men accused of involvement in the spectacular robbery of a cash depot last year was announced Thursday.

Södertörns’ district court also handed out a seven-year prison sentence to the 31-year-old man who previously confessed his involvement in the robbery. The man who has been described as the “brain” behind the coup was convicted to serve three years.

Four other men were convicted to shorter jail sentences and in total seven out of the ten men accused where convicted while three men were acquitted. But police continue their investigation as the 5.8 million dollars stolen has never been found. Police also suspect that more people were involved in the robbery.

The robbery which took place early in the morning in September last year was ranked as one of the ten most spectacular heists of all time by Time Magazine. The robbers landed with a helicopter on the roof of a cash depot in Västberga, southern Stockholm and in 31 minutes they had stolen an estimated 5.8 million dollars.
