Minister calls for national medical records

Sweden's new IT minister is considering legislation to force local authorities to co-operate and create a nationwide digital medical journal system.

Minister Anna-Karin Hatt claims it could save lives if a health centre could get immediate access to a patient's medical records, no matter where they live in the country.

Developing a national digital system for medical journals has been discussed here in Sweden for over a decade, writes news agency TT.
