Weapons Amnesty Plan

Swedish Justice Minister Beatrice Ask says her ministry is preparing a plan for an amnesty for people who turn in illegal weapons.

Speaking to the newspaper “Svenska Dagbladet”, Ask said the six month program would launch in March. It’s based on legislation the previous Social Democrat government prepared on the recommendation of parliament last year.

During a similar amnesty program in 1993 17,000 guns were turned in during a 3 month period, including nearly 7000 pistols and 54 automatic weapons.
