Wednesday night’s storm knocked out power to some 50,000 people in southern and central Sweden and disrupted train, road and ferry traffic. In Stockholm all bus services were cancelled after 6 pm because the icy roads were considered unsafe. Many car drivers had been caught out by the snow storm and hadn’t changed their summer tyres to winter ones. The snow continued to cause problems for commuters on Thursday morning as temperatures dropped as low as minus 10 . In the capital, trains were running but were suffering delays while bus services were still severely disrupted due partly to the fact that people had left their cars on the roads because of the ice.
