Optimism for Christmas Sales

Despite last year’s record sales during the Christmas period, Swedish shops are optimistic that this season will be even better.

According to a survey conducted by the branch organization the Swedish Trade Federation, seven out of ten store managers expect an increase in December sales this year.

Swedish retailers have seen improvements in Christmas sales every year for the past decade. But last year the increase was especially large, 6.7 percent up over the year before.

The Christmas season is extremely important for Swedish retailers. In 2005 the month of December accounted for 11 percent of annual sales.
