Recovered Gun May be Palme Murder Weapon

The newspaper “Expressen” says a revolver of the same kind that killed Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme 20 years ago was found Monday by a diver in a lake in the province of Dalarna.

The weapon has been turned over the police’s Palme murder investigation unit. They say the serial number confirms that the gun, a Smith and Wesson 357 Magnum, was the same weapon used in a 1983 post office robbery. There’s long been suspicion of a link with the Palme murder weapon, as the bullets used in the robbery matched those used to kill the Swedish prime minister.

The police forensics laboratory will be working to repair the recovered revolver so that it can be fired for a ballistics test.
