Foreign Office "extremely surprised" over Swede’s retrial

A court in Greece has ordered that a young Swedish man who was cleared of attempting to murder a waiter on the island of Kos should stand trial again.

Calle Jonsson, who is now 23, was accused of trying to kill the Greek man with a knife in July 2001, but he denied the charge and was found not guilty in April last year.

His lawyer says he is shocked to hear that the Supreme Court has now ordered a retrial, and the Swedish Foreign Ministry has also said it is very surprising.
