NATO leaders meet in Riga, Latvia

Sweden Positive on Joining NATO Force

Sweden’s new center-right government favors joining NATO’s new rapid-response force.

The Defence Ministry says if the western military alliance were to send an invitation, they would look at it in a positive light. NATO leaders declared at a summit in Latvia last week that their 25,000 strong rapid response force is now fully operational, after four years of preparation.

They also agreed to seek closer military and political cooperation with partner nations, including Sweden and Finland.
